Complaint: The website advertisement said:
Switching from Prepay to On Account
When you go On Account, you'll need a new mobile number.
It's easy to sort out. Just head to your nearest Vodafone
store, and sign up to a new On Account plan. They can help
you work out which plan is the best deal for you ...".
Complainant, N. Sweeney, said they had been advised at a Vodafone store that they were not able to switch to a monthly account from their existing prepay phone.
The relevant provision was Rule 2 of the Code of Ethics.
Vodafone New Zealand Limited, on receipt of the complaint, expressed concern that N. Sweeney had been misinformed and said that as a Prepay customer, N. Sweeney could easily switch to On Account from prepay without having to purchase another phone.
The Chairman noted the above matters which clarified that the issue of complaint had arisen from a service issue rather than a misleading claim in an advertisement. As such he said there was no apparent breach of the Advertising Codes and the matter was resolved.
