COMPLAINT NUMBER 17/174

COMPLAINANT J Conceicao

ADVERTISER Godfreys ADVERTISEMENT Godfreys, Digital Marketing DATE OF MEETING 19 June 2017

OUTCOME Settled

Advertisement:

The Godfrey Vacuums Facebook page,www.facebook.com/GodfreysVacuums,

advertised a stocktake sale and featured the Pullman Advance Commander 900 for $399.

The Chair ruled the complaint was Settled.

Complainant, J Conceicao, said: https://www.facebook.com/GodfreysVacuums/ I saw this advertised product as part of Godfreys "Stockdale sale"

However When I went into store the products normal price is $399 which is the same price advertised as part of a "sale".

To me this appears misleading and untruthful

The relevant provisions were Code of Ethics - Basic Principle 4, Rule 2.

The Chair noted the Complainant's concern that the advertisement said a vacuum cleaner was selling at a reduced price and that was misleading and untruthful.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Advertiser has informed the Secretariat that they have taken full responsibility for giving the impression the product in question was being sold at a discounted price when it wasn't. The Advertiser immediately removed the advertisement and have counselled their marketing team to ensure that future advertisements are clearer as to whether an advertised price is a discounted price or not.

Given the Advertiser's co-operative engagement with the process and the self-regulatory action taken in removing the advertisement, the Chair said that it would serve no further purpose to place the matter before the Complaints Board. The Chair ruled that the matter was settled.
