COMPLAINANT T Huber ADVERTISER AA Health ADVERTISEMENT AA Health, Television DATE OF MEETING 26 June 2017
OUTCOME No Grounds to Proceed
Advertisement: The AA Health television advertisement shows a man receiving test results from his doctor, which he takes home for his wife to open, revelling that his cancer is in remission. The wording on the screen says "Your health is everything... Protect it." The advertisement finishes with details about AA Health and the tagline, "We'll take care of you."
The Chair ruled there were no grounds for the complaint to proceed.
Complainant, T Huber, said: The ad shows a man receiving a letter from a doctor, he returns home and reveals that his cancer is in remission, followed by AA Health advertising. It looks like being insured with AA Health means better protection from cancer.
The relevant provisions were Code for Financial Advertising - Principle 1, Principle 2. The Chair noted the Complainant's concern that the advertisement implied a higher
protection from cancer if consumers are insured by the Advertiser.
Having viewed the advertisement, the Chair said that she did not interpret the Advertiser's message to mean that being insured by AA Health gave better protection against cancer. She said the likely consumer take out from the advertisement would be that it is advocating looking after your health options by having insurance cover.
The Chair ruled the advertisement had been prepared with a high sense of social responsibility to consumers and there was no apparent breach of the Code for Financial Advertising.
Accordingly, the Chair ruled there were no grounds for the complaint to proceed.
