COMPLAINANT D. Gaines ADVERTISER Pestrol NZ ADVERTISEMENT Television DATE OF MEETING 17 July 2017
Advertisement: The television advertisement for Pestrol Pest Control showed an illustration of the repellant device in the advertisement, including the progs of the plug which fit in to the electrical outlet.
The Acting Chair ruled the complaint was Settled.
Complainant, D. Gaines, said: "The item advertised shows a 3 pin plug which is illegal in nz. The pins require insulation halfway up the pin. I advertise on trade me and have been asked to remove items like this in the past for the same reason."
The relevant provisions were Basic Principle 4 and Rule 12 of the Code of Ethics. Advertiser, Pestrol NZ, said, in part: "We have only ever sold the units with the insulated
pins as we are aware of the regulations and out units are tested by an approved electrical
The Acting Chair noted the Advertiser provided screenshots from a new advertisement which clearly showed the insulation on the prongs of the plug and said it had replaced the advertisement subject to complaint.
Taking in to account the self-regulatory action of the Advertiser in amending the advertisement, the Acting Chair said it served no further purpose to place the matter before the Complaints Board and ruled the complaint was Settled.
