Advertisement: The Mr Plumber website,www.mrplumber.nz, states in several locations on
the website "Get a free quote" and also references this in the text body of the website
..."Quotes are free and so is straight up advice to solve any problems...."
The Acting Chair ruled the complaint was Settled
Complainant, C Underwood, said: The website offers a free quote but when you ring the person on the phone tells you it is going to cost you $78 for a call out fee, so no free quote. I specifically called about a repair which it talks about in the long copy, she said it is for a full roof that you get a free quote, very very misleading.
The relevant provisions were Code of Ethics - Basic Principle 4, Rule 2.
The Acting Chair noted the Complainant's concern that the website contained misleading
claims about offering 'free' quotes.
The Acting Chair noted that the Advertiser had altered the website to remove all reference to
the word 'free' and now advise customers to 'get a quote'.
Given the Advertiser's co-operative engagement with the process and the self-regulatory action taken in amending the website, the Acting Chair said that it would serve no further purpose to place the matter before the Complaints Board. The Acting Chair ruled that the matter was settled.
