Live Nation, Out of Home
COMPLAINT NUMBER 17/357
COMPLAINANT A Chambers ADVERTISER Live Nation ADVERTISEMENT Live Nation, Out of Home DATE OF MEETING 20 October 2017
Advertisement: The Live Nation poster advertisement for the band, Cigarettes After Sex, showed a naked woman laying on the ground next to a skull.
The Chair ruled the complaint was Settled.
Complainant, A Chambers, said: This poster is huge and on an external dairy wall beside a primary school,Owairaka School, on Richardson Road (the Mt Albert end). The dairy is called "School Dairy" and is right beside the school, so they should be more careful about the advertising they permit.
This should be removed before school children return after the holidays, but many children will be attending the school holiday programme, and this is highly visible and inappropriate.
The Media: Shout Media said: " I can confirm this poster has been removed. This placement was a mistake, we have a responsible advertising policy written around material close to schools... We will continue to work hard to ensure this kind of accident does not happen again."
The relevant provisions were Code of Ethics - Basic Principle 4, Rule 4, Rule 5.
The Chair noted the Complainant's concern that the placement of the poster in the vicinity of
a school was inappropriate.
The Chair acknowledged the Media response confirming the poster placement was an error and had been removed from the placement of concern.
Given the Media's co-operative engagement with the process and the self-regulatory action taken in removing the poster from the school area, the Chair said that it would serve no further purpose to place the matter before the Complaints Board. The Chair ruled that the matter was settled.
