COMPLAINT NUMBER 17/361

COMPLAINANT J. Hutchins

ADVERTISER Farmer Brown Eggs

ADVERTISEMENT Farmer Brown Eggs, Digital

Marketing

DATE OF MEETING 19 October 2017

OUTCOME Settled

Advertisement: The Facebook advertisement for Farmer Brown Eggs said including eggs in your diet reduces the risk of heart disease.

The Chair ruled the complaint was Settled.

Complainant, J Hutchins, said: Farmer Brown is claiming studies have shown that including eggs in your diet reduces the risk of heart disease. No links to studies are provided, and the contrary appears to be true compared to other studies found easily with a google search.

The relevant provisions were Code for Advertising Food - Principle 1, Principle 2.

The Chair noted the Complainant's concern that the Advertiser's website contained unsubstantiated claims about the heart health benefit of a diet containing eggs, which were misleading.

The Chair acknowledged the Advertiser had removed the Facebook references which were of concern.

Given the Advertiser's co-operative engagement with the process and the self-regulatory action taken in removing the Facebook posting, the Chair said that it would serve no further purpose to place the matter before the Complaints Board. The Chair ruled that the matter was settled.
